We run a bee course for beginners on a Saturday for a full day. Learners must have their own bee suits or jackets, if not we insist on hiring one of ours for the day. This is for your own safety and protection, bee suit availability is limited and is not included in the bee course fee.

Beekeeping is fun in the sun! Some people enjoy beekeeping as a leisure activity with the added bonus of free honey, others do it professionally. Either way it’s still a great way to get outdoors, meet people and get closer to nature. Considering becoming a hobbyist or beginning a journey to commercial bee farming, either way you require insight and ability, with hands on experience.
The Beekeeping Course Cape Town covers:
● Theory on beekeeping equipment
● planning apiaries
● harvesting honey explained
● keeping bees…and more!
The full day beekeeping course starts at 08h30 until late afternoon, it includes theory on basic beekeeping and a practical hands-on experience of working a
beehive. All learners participate in the practical exercise, with a live bee hive.
Each learner will remove a frame from an active beehive and inspect it.
- A search for the queen bee.
- Describing/ identifying comb, drone cells, larvae, eggs.
- Understanding of internal workings of the hive.
- Course fee is R1350pp and includes lunch and coffee/ tea & biscuits. (Please inform us of any dietary requirements i.e. vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, etc)
- Please be sure to have the necessary protective gear with you on the day: bee suit and gloves.
Alternatively, we offer hiring of a bee suit and gloves for the day at an additional R150pp – please note that suits are limited and are available on a first come, first served basis.
