I am brand new in bee keeping and only doing at as a hobby. Got a smallholding near Hope Town. I managed to catch two swarms and they are not there a year yet. When I arrived here about middle Nov 2025, I found these ugly black beetles in the hive entrances and the bees were fighting them. I had to do hive inspection and found to my shock, a lot of these black large hive beetles in the brood boxes. Had to take them out, look for larvae/eggs and realised I had to get something to keep them out! I had a couple of these entrance guards and fit them, and ordered some more, because they are working PERFECT! In fact, I came from the hives just now and managed to kill 7 more beetles sitting in the entrance, trying to get access. These guards work 100%. In fact, I don’t know why the brood boxes do not get sold with them installed?!
