WOW – Welcome to a new year + new Decade!
I’m inspired as the owner of Bee WARE to look back over the last year and especially over the last 10 years. I asked myself over the last weekend questions like these…
“What BIG things did I do in the last 10 years that REALLY fulfilled my life?“
I also contemplated the Good, Bad, Ugly and Blessings I had. What question was really pivotal for me was “What did I want to do in the last decade that I didn’t and Why? Then, this led me to check if those things were still important and WHY didn’t I achieve them? Do I still want to get them done… Are they still important? If so, how do I get them done in this decade?
I focused on finding out things I got done that were amazing and what made me decide to do them. I dug deep and wanted to know the bad things I had experienced and why they happened and more importantly how did I grow from them and can I plan to do better this decade… What did YOU get right and What DIDN’T you?
I reflected on all the impactful things I did and how great it felt with those experiences and how I can do more of the same. I moved countries to see how the other half live! I visited Ukraine and saw Chernobyl in person! I went to Turkey, visited Disneyland Paris and Paraglided off Lion’s Head with both my kids and my partner! These were all things I had on my last list and more.
I started a list of the things I need and want to do this decade. Impactful things from small to grand! Play more board games which I love to do. Go on walks. Read more books. Talk with friends on deeper levels. I also want to travel to see the Great Wall of China and South America see Machu Pichu.
I asked questions about why I didn’t get things done and what was different from the things I did achieve even though many were challenging… I wanted to know whether they were lost causes or not. How do I repeat the positive and ups for growth while learning from the downs and challenges? How do you do it?
There were things I didn’t like: A kudu jumped into my car while doing 120km/hr and luckily I survived. My car didn’t. I didn’t like moving to another country even though it was best for the kid’s future. It didn’t necessarily work best for the kids at the time… I had staff theft at my business and people I trusted let me down that knew about it. I took a back step on creating my dream of raising awareness around bees. My marriage ended and the kids didn’t take it well. I asked some basic questions about why these things happened and what I can do in future to not repeat them. I also asked about what kind of life do I want now and how will it look going forward for me and the kids.
Life goes on…
I decided I can do things about the bad and ugly going forward. I can also learn from my mistakes and also ADAPT to new circumstances. Especially, I learnt that this exercise is highly valuable in seeing my journey up to now but more importantly, where I can take me for the next decade as the bus driver of my life.
I focus on the ups and the good with a growing list of activities, events and skills I want to add to my basket of experiences so that at the end of this decade I can reflect again being a different person with a richness of life greater than I had before!
To the next decade…
With the decision to grow and seek my best life every day, I’ve challenged myself to learn new things like play guitar, take up paragliding, dance more salsa and be present with my partner in our relationship. I want to expand the beekeeping business and services which means personal growth for me. What do you have on your bucket list that you just have to do?
I wish you the same with your life, your beekeeping and your journey!
P.S. Make a list and REFLECT!
