Description
Large Hive Beetle Entrance Guard (Pair)
Bee Hive Beetle Protection Guard
Small pests can create massive problems inside a bee hive.
One of the most frustrating and destructive hive pests beekeepers face is the Large Hive Beetle. Once inside the colony, beetles can rapidly multiply and create serious stress for bees, damage honey stores, contaminate comb, and weaken entire colonies.
That is why prevention is one of the most important strategies in modern beekeeping.
This Large Beetle Entrance Guard (Pair) is designed to help reduce beetle access into your hive by restricting and protecting the entrance area while still allowing bees to move in and out effectively.
Suitable for beginner, professional, and commercial beekeepers, these entrance guards are a simple but highly effective way to improve hive defence and reduce beetle pressure inside the colony.
When it comes to hive beetles:
👉 Prevention is always easier than recovery.
🚨 The Problem With Large Hive Beetles
Large hive beetles are more than just a nuisance.
Once beetles gain access to a hive, they can:
❌ Lay eggs inside the colony
❌ Contaminate honey
❌ Damage comb
❌ Stress the bees
❌ Create slimy fermented honey
❌ Weaken already struggling colonies
Heavy infestations can quickly become difficult to control, especially during warm weather and high beetle pressure seasons.
Many beekeepers only react once the problem becomes severe—but by then, the colony is already under stress.
That is why entrance protection is such an important first line of defence.
🐝 How the Entrance Guard Helps
This Large Beetle Entrance Guard works by helping reduce the ability of large hive beetles to enter through the hive entrance area.
The guard creates:
✔ Better entrance control
✔ Improved colony defence management
✔ Reduced beetle access points
✔ Additional hive protection
At the same time, bees can still move through the entrance openings efficiently during normal hive activity.
✅ Why Entrance Protection Matters
The hive entrance is one of the most vulnerable access points in the colony.
Without protection:
- Beetles can enter more easily
- Weak colonies become vulnerable
- Bees must work harder to defend the hive
- Pest pressure increases inside the colony
By reducing and controlling entry access, bees often have a better chance of defending their colony naturally.
🧰 Benefits of Using Large Beetle Entrance Guards
1. Helps Reduce Beetle Entry
Creates a more controlled hive entrance.
2. Supports Colony Defence
Helps bees guard the entrance more effectively.
3. Simple to Install
Easy addition to existing hive setups.
4. Improves Hive Protection
Adds another layer of defence against hive pests.
5. Suitable for All Beekeepers
Perfect for beginner to commercial apiary use.
🌍 What Beekeepers Say Online (Forums & Reviews)
Across Reddit, beekeeping forums, and pest management discussions, hive beetles are consistently described as one of the most frustrating hive pests.
Common beekeeper comments include:
“Once beetles get established, they are hard to control.”
“Prevention is far easier than clean-up.”
Many experienced beekeepers recommend:
✔ Entrance reduction
✔ Strong colony management
✔ Beetle traps
✔ Good hive hygiene
Entrance guards are frequently mentioned as part of an overall beetle management strategy.
A common lesson from experienced beekeepers:
👉 It is easier to stop beetles entering than to deal with a heavy infestation later.
🔥 Why Beetles Become Such a Big Problem
Hive beetles thrive in:
- Warm climates
- Weak colonies
- Overcrowded hive spaces
- Poorly defended entrances
Once populations increase inside the hive:
❌ Honey can ferment
❌ Comb can become slimy
❌ Bees may abscond
❌ Colony productivity drops
This creates major problems for both hobby and commercial beekeepers.
🐝 Ideal for Beginner to Commercial Use
Suitable for:
✔ Beginner beekeepers
✔ Hobbyists
✔ Sideliners
✔ Commercial apiaries
✔ Queen breeders
✔ Pollination operations
Whether you manage:
- One hive
or - Hundreds of colonies
…large hive beetle prevention should always be part of your apiary management system.
⚡ Simple Tool. Important Protection.
One of the best things about beetle entrance guard is their simplicity.
They are:
✔ Easy to install
✔ Low maintenance
✔ Affordable
✔ Effective as part of beetle management
Sometimes the smallest bee hive upgrades make the biggest long-term difference.
🛠️ Built for Everyday Apiary Conditions
These beetle entrance guards are designed for practical beekeeping use:
✔ Durable construction
✔ Easy hive attachment
✔ Designed for repeated outdoor use
✔ Suitable for routine hive management
Perfect for long-term apiary setups and seasonal beetle pressure management.
🐝 Why Commercial Beekeepers Use beetle entrance guards
Commercial operators understand that:
✔ Pest prevention saves money
✔ Healthy colonies are more productive
✔ Hive stress reduces honey production
Large-scale operations cannot afford major beetle outbreaks across multiple colonies.
That is why many commercial beekeepers use layered pest management systems that include entrance protection.
🍯 Protect Your Honey Investment
Beetles do not only affect bees.
They can also damage:
❌ Honey quality
❌ Wax comb
❌ Hive cleanliness
❌ Honey harvest potential
Protecting the entrance helps protect the entire hive environment.
🐝 Best Used As Part of a Beetle Management Strategy
For best results, combine entrance guards with:
✔ Strong colonies
✔ Good hive hygiene
✔ Beetle traps
✔ Proper apiary maintenance
✔ Regular inspections
Hive beetle control works best with prevention and consistent management.
🐝 Final Takeaway
Large hive beetles can quickly turn into a major apiary problem if left unmanaged.
This Large Beetle Entrance Guard (Pair) helps:
✔ Reduce beetle access
✔ Improve colony defence
✔ Support healthier hives
✔ Protect honey and comb
✔ Reduce pest pressure inside the hive
Whether you are a beginner beekeeper or managing a commercial apiary, entrance protection is one of the simplest and smartest steps you can take for better hive health.

I am brand new in bee keeping and only doing at as a hobby. Got a smallholding near Hope Town. I managed to catch two swarms and they are not there a year yet. When I arrived here about middle Nov 2025, I found these ugly black beetles in the hive entrances and the bees were fighting them. I had to do hive inspection and found to my shock, a lot of these black large hive beetles in the brood boxes. Had to take them out, look for larvae/eggs and realised I had to get something to keep them out! I had a couple of these entrance guards and fit them, and ordered some more, because they are working PERFECT! In fact, I came from the hives just now and managed to kill 7 more beetles sitting in the entrance, trying to get access. These guards work 100%. In fact, I don’t know why the brood boxes do not get sold with them installed?!
